"The things they showed us in class if practiced we wouldn't be as afraid to go out at night or certain places in the daytime alone. I am hoping to get all of the women in my life to take these classes with me so they may feel as empowered as I did when I left class that day."
"I felt comfortable and welcomed yet still focused on such a serious subject matter. I was able to learn several strikes and blocks as well as add to my meditation skills. My instructor also adapted my program to help me participate with an injured knee. I especially love that this program was developed by and taught by a WOMAN."
"Set up a private self defense class for my college going niece and a group of her friends. What a great experience! Karla and Jen provided so much more than I ever expected. Really awesome...Highly recommended!!"
We have been working diligently to put together a course that offers more than the basics in the same, safe group setting that we are known for. We are proud and excited to announce that we have met the challenge and have put together four, 2-hour modules that will focus on one particular component of our Basic Women's Personal Safety Workshop.
Each module will be offered in the afternoon on the same day as our basic workshop. If you take the basic workshop in the morning, you are welcome to enroll for the afternoon one as well. If you have taken one of our basic workshops in the past and want to come in just for the afternoon course, then we welcome you to register for the ones you'd like to take. If you miss a class, don't worry, they will repeat later in the year.
Jan 27: Blocks and Strikes
Feb 24: Ground Defenses
Mar 31: Weapon Defenses
Apr 28: Situational Drills*
Each module will be 2-hours long and will focus only on the topic of the month. We strongly suggest attending our Basic Workshop before attending any of the specialty courses. For dates and registration to our Basic Workshop, go to at the JOIN A CLASS link at the top of the website.
*Important Requirement: as Module 4 puts together techniques learned in the previous modules, you must have attended our Basic Self Defense Workshop and at least one previous Module to register.

Our team can't wait to meet you!
We are Karla and Jen and we have been running women's self defense classes for our communities for years. We're proud to say that we have empowered countless women with the skills and resources they need to stay safe. But let's be real, its not just about training and skills, we need safe spaces to practice without the pressure of performance that often comes at the gym, a safe space for anyone who has been through a violent trauma, a safe space away from judgement, a space created by women for women who understand what women need to feel safe. That's why we've created Out of Harms Way. Every who identifies as female has a place here and we can't wait to meet you.
